Dental Cleaning in Fort Lauderdale

Routine dental cleanings are a key part of ensuring that your smile stays healthy and vibrant. At Pearl White Dentistry, the process is quick and comfortable and can have results that are noticeable as soon as you walk out of our office.

Fort Lauderdale dentist Dr. Natalia Benda-Celenski has roughly two decades of experience in general dentistry and her work and has been cited for “Excellence in Clinical Achievement.” Dr. Natalia and her entire staff at Pearl White are committed to preserving your oral health

By undergoing regular exams and cleanings, we can help prevent serious dental problems from occurring, instead of using a wide range of restorative and cosmetic services to address tooth decay and damage after it happens. We can also diagnose and address minor issues right away before they escalate into larger concerns, such as advanced periodontal disease, tooth decay, or oral cancer.

Routine Dental Cleanings

Dental cleanings and checkups go hand-in-hand and are typically performed within the same visit.

There are two types of dental cleanings that we perform at our Fort Lauderdale office: routine cleanings and deep cleanings (also known as a scaling and root planing).

Both types of cleanings are administered by our dental hygienists. We also use mild anesthesia in some situations where a deeper cleaning is needed.

During a routine cleaning, the hygienist will use a small metal instrument called a “scaler” to remove tartar buildup above and below the gum line, floss your teeth, and clean them using an ultrasonic brush. Afterward, a fluoride treatment may be administered.

Twice a year cleanings and checkups are often standard, but we recommend a more frequent schedule for some people and seniors. If you are a smoker, suffer from gum disease, bone loss or oral cancer, are prone to plaque buildup, have diabetes, or have undergone advanced dental treatments like a root canal, you should come in more than twice a year to ensure your oral health and nip any issues in the bud.

Deep Cleanings (Scaling & Root Planing)

If you have larger pockets between your teeth and gums, the hygienist may perform a deeper cleaning that involves scaling and root planing treatment. This is meant to address any plaque buildup, inflammation and infection.

A deep cleaning involves the same steps as the routine version, but also cleans below the gum line to help shrink pocket size. Local anesthesia is often used with deep cleanings to prevent discomfort. An antibiotic may also be administered to fight off infection.
